Simbi Maphosa selected top 4 finalist for 2023 Bucknell BizPitch Competition

Simbi Maphosa, a young entrepreneur, was recently announced one of the top 4 finalist for the 2023 BizPitch competition where she will be presenting her product PRIME-Air. Simbi's product is set to change the narrative for the treatment of asthma in low-resource and underserved communities.

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects over 235 million people worldwide, and it is estimated that up to 80% of asthma-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. The lack of access to effective treatment and medication in these communities is a significant barrier to effective asthma control and management. PRIME-Air is a portable, non-electric, and cost-effective nebulizer that is designed specifically for use in low-resource and underserved communities. The device utilizes a simple and intuitive design that allows for easy use by patients and healthcare providers alike.

"Unlike traditional nebulizers, which are bulky and require an electrical source, PRIME-Air is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, and does not require any external power source. This makes it an ideal solution for use in remote and low-resource areas where access to electricity is limited."

Traditional nebulizers can cost hundreds of dollars, making them out of reach for many low-income families. PRIME-Air, on the other hand, is priced affordably, making it accessible to those who need it most. Simbi's vision for PRIME-Air is to provide a simple, affordable, and effective solution for the treatment of asthma in low-resource and underserved communities. She believes that everyone should have access to the care they need, regardless of where they live or how much money they have.

The BizPitch competition provides an opportunity for Simbi to showcase her product to a wider audience and potentially secure funding to take it to the next level. The competition is judged by a panel of experts in the field of business and entrepreneurship. Simbi's inclusion in the final round is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and innovative thinking. She has shown that with determination and perseverance, it is possible to create products that have a positive impact on society.
